What would you say is the moment when you realized that you'd arrived?

Like I said, I grew up loving the whole Bad Boy movement and so the first time I realized I really made it, I was sitting in my living room and I get a call from Puff. He just called my phone and was talking to me. I went out to LA and did some work with him, partied with him, we riding in the car together and I thought to myself, "Wow, this is really happening." When I worked with Beyonce, I made a joke and she punched me in my arm [laughs] and I was like, "Wow, Beyonce just punched me in the arm and laughed at my joke!"

Aw man, that was the experience of a lifetime working with one of the greatest vocalist of all time," Love said about B. "She came in and cut the song in a hour. She had to go. Jay-Z was opening up the tour with Mary J. Blige and Bey came in. She wasn't prepared to record, but heard the song and said, 'Let's do it.' It's actually my background vocals in the hook. She liked the way it sounded so we kept it."

But "Sweet Dreams" almost turned into a nightmare for Rico.

"It got leaked the day after we did the record," he said. Usually a leak that far in advance of an album release puts the song in serious jeopardy of being excluded from the final track list, but as Love said, "that song has nine lives."

"I was more concerned that she would feel that we did it," Rico said of the leak. "A lot of times producers or songwriters leak records because they feel if you put the song out there it would go. But it was frustrating. I felt like you work hard to get in the studio to work with Beyoncé. I was blessed and fortunate to have four songs on that album ... I wasn't that distraught. I have faith in God. The first song we did together was a song I did called, 'Save the Hero.' I wrote 'Radio' and I co-wrote 'Scared and Lonely.' "

he did vocal producing with beyonce on radio, sweetdreams, save the hero

--------------------------------------

“Sweet Dreams” was done on the second day I worked with Beyoncé. The first session I did with her was a song called “Save The Hero.” The second session she was like seven hours behind because of the weather. That was the same night JAY Z and Mary J. Blige were opening up their tour in Miami. Beyoncé came down. She was in full Beyoncé mode and was on her way to the concert, but stopped by the studio just to apologize for missing the session. She wasn’t really there to hear music, because she had to be at JAY’s show. I asked if I could just play one record. She heard it and looked at her cousin Angie and was like “How much time do I got left?” Angie said she only had like an hour. Beyoncé took her earrings and heels off and went in the booth. The record was done in about 30 minutes.
